Spring Bulbs

Post Christmas can be a grey time and that’s why I love having spring bulbs in the garden. April and the regaining of leaves may still be a few months ahead but it’s not very long into January when you see Crocus and Daffodils starting to push through and this restores your enthusiasm for the garden and for the exciting spring flowers to follow.

Snowdrops are in flower by the end of January and off we go, winter flowering Iris, Narcissus January Gold, Crocus, more Daffodils and then Tulips. All this happens prior to the display of most spring flowering shrubs. We have a fantastic range to choose from this year and now is the time to get them in as you begin your autumn tidy up.

Fruit Trees

There is nothing quite like picking your own grown fruit fresh from the tree and it’s not just apples, cherries, plums, pears and gages there are all the lovely fruits for cooking such as quince, damsons, crab apples and medlars as well. Autumn is a busy time in the fruit tree garden what with picking the remaining fruit, pruning for next year (See Simon’s Tuesday Talks) and of course planting new trees.
